James Miles-Hobbs

James has practiced as a farm business consultant for over 30 years.  He commenced his career working on the family 1000 acre arable, pig and beef farm.  After gaining his qualifications at Reading and the Royal Agricultural University he spent two years farming on a 2000 acre arable farm in Cambridgeshire.  In 1985 he joined Andersons (The Farm Business Consultants) where he became an equity Partner in 1990 and ran their Salisbury office until he joined Savills in 2002 as part of the acquisition of Andersons South & West.

In 2004 James started his own company, JMH Farming & Renewables Ltd (previously Rural Development Associates Ltd). He advises on general farm business, contract and share farming, strategic financial planning, rural diversification and grant funding.  His specialist skills are particularly around:

  • No-Farm Energy Investments
  • Renewable Energy
  • Carbon Accounting and Auditing

 James was named Farm Adviser of the Year by Farmers Weekly in 2011.  He is an ex-Chairman and current Committee member of the Wiltshire branch of the CLA and sits on the South West Regional Committee.  In addition to representing the South West at the CLA Council, James is a member of the CLA Policy Committee and the CLA Business & Rural Economy Committee.  He is also a member of the BIAC Council.  James is a liveryman for the Worshipful Company of Farmers, a member of LEAF and the Farmers Club and a director of Green kW C.I.C., a community 5MW solar PV business on the Isle of Wight.
